The existence
in the developing world 146 million children under five years
low weight, contrasts with the reality of Cuban children,
recognized worldwide for having been unaware of this social evil . These alarming numbers

padecen de fame e que 53 millóns delas viven en América Latina. Só
en México hai cinco millóns 200 mil persoas desnutridas e en Haití tres
millóns 800 mil, mentres en todo o planeta morren da fame cada ano máis
de cinco millóns de nenos.
De acordo con estimados das Nacións Unidas, non sería moi custoso acadar saúde e nutrición básica para todos os habitantes do Terceiro Mundo.
Chegarían para alcanzar esa meta 13 mil millóns de dólares anuais
adicionais ao que agora destínanse, unha cifra que nunca se logrou e
que é exigua se se compara co millón de millóns que cada ano se inviste na publicidade comercial, os 400 mil millóns en drogas
estupefacientes ou mesmo os oito mil millóns que se gasta en Estados
Unidos en cosméticos.
Para satisfacción de Cuba, a Organización das Nacións Unidas para a
Alimentación e a Agricultura (FAO) tamén recoñeceu que esta é a
nación con máis avances en América Latina na loita contra a desnutrición.
O Estado cubano garante unha canastra básica alimenticia que permite a
nutrición da súa poboación polo menos nos niveis básicos- mediante a rede
de distribución normed product.
